This College occupies a unique position in sports and games. The excitement of rivalry and zest for winning are the two sides of the same coin that prompt students throng the fields resulting in the gradual emergence of talents.
During the early stages of our history hockey was given importance. The impact was such that Xavier's become synonymous with hochey. The prestigious Pentland shield was won 14 times by this college so much so now it is permanently retained here. The personal interest shown by the principal Fr. I. Arulsamy S.J. was a driving force for this achievement. Mr.D.S. Anthonymuthu, the Physical Director at that time was bounching with prodigious energy to spur the institution to new heights in sports. He was a source of inspiration. He infused team spirit which was a major strength for success. He retired in 1960.
This College dominated in private tournaments also. It won the Betram Memorial Cup, Madras, Centenary Cup, Tiruchirapalli, and Paul Thangiah Edward (Auppa) tournament, Palayamkottai for several years. The team went as for as Kerala winning Kochi memorial tourney, Trivandrum and Fr. Kalathra memorial tourney, Quilon.
