This is Fr. Britto Vincent S.J., Rector of St.Xavier’s Institutions welcoming you to St. Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai. Let me briefly share with you the vision and mission of St. Xavier’s College (Autonomous). St. Ignatius our founder has enjoined on us always to seek the greater glory of God and the more universal good. Our Patron St. Francis Xavier was always burning with zeal to spread the good news to as many people as possible. Inspired by these great men of God, we always seek to impart an education to the youth that frees a person from ignorance, prejudice and narrow-mindedness. We seek to build the character of the student along with his academic excellence. This does not imply that we compromise on quality and tolerate mediocrity in academic excellence. We try to inculcate in the youth, a sense of serious search, critical evaluation, truthfulness, honesty, hard work and respect for the rights of others and genuine appreciation of other cultures.

Education to-day has to address itself to the perennial problem of poverty, illiteracy, unemployment and injustice in society. We therefore seek to offer to the youth employable skills. To this end a variety of skill based courses are offered under the ‘ Cafeteria’ model of choice based credit system.
