PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

      The subject, physics, was introduced in this college in 1924 as a part of the intermediate course. Mr.S.V.Subbayyar was the first faculty member. Three years latter, natural science was introduced and Rev.Dr.Schnecder S.J., joined the department. Mr.J.B. Rajam Krishnamoorthy the famous author, was in the department only for a short term and after his departure, Mr.Thomas Joseph joined department Later Rev.Fr.Laurent S.J., joined as a faculty member. Mr.S.V. Subbayyar left the college after 25 years of meritorious service to join the B.Ed. College. Mr.P.Chidambaram was appointed in the place of Mr.S.V.Subbayyar. Rev.Dr.Schnecder S.J., retired after rendering 28 years of valuable guidance to the department.

B.Sc Physics was introduced in 1956 with Mr.N.R.Krishnamoorthy as head of the department. When he left the department in 1958, Mr.Thomas Joseph was promoted as the head of the department.

Rev.Fr.S.M.Irudayam S.J., was transferred from st.Joseph’s college to this college in 1976. Later in 1977 he was appointed as principal. Mr.Tharsius was appointed in 1977 and Mr.I.Sebasdiyar in1978.

Rev.Fr.M.Irudayam retired in 1981. J.A.Stephen took over the head ship of the department when Mr.Thomas Joseph retired. Dr.S.Paul Raj was appointed when Dr.s.Ambrose was transferred to computer science department. When Mr.J.A.Stephen retired, Mr.Y.Pauldurai was promoted as the head of the department. After the retirement of Mr.Y.Paul durai, Mr.C.Devaraj was promoted as the head of the department Dr.J.Benet Charles joined the department on After 11 years of meritorious service as head of the department, Mr.C.Devaraj retired from service. At present Mr.Y.M.Tharsius is serving as the head of the department. Mr.Amos Michael is appointed in the place of Mr.c.Devaraj and Miss Anna Venus is appointed in the place of Mr.M.Kanakaraju who expired in February 2005.
