FOLKLORE DEPARTMENT
The Department of folklore offers an interdisciplinary post-graduate and Ph.D programmes in Folklore since the year 1987.
TThe M.A. Folklore curriculum includes theoretical understandings of the society from the perspectives of Sociology, Cultural Anthropology, Literature, Ethno_linguistics, History etc., which are intertwined by the present day trends of the world namely ethnicity and identity. Feminism, globalization, marginality, multiculturalism etc. This programme also finds ways and means to identify and rejuvenate traditional knowledge systems and techniques in the fields of medicine, irrigation, crafts, architecture etc.
As this course is multidisciplinary in nature, the students after furnishing the course finds it easy to face UPSC and other competitive examinations. Many of the old students of the Department of Folklore are now working in cultural, research and development organizations of the Government and Non-government sectors of both inland and abroad. Any graduate is admitted into this course..
The areas of research are Ethnomousicology, Identity issues, folk games, orality and literacy, traditional technology etc.
