ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

      The Principals and Vice-Principals were the heads of the department in the beginning. Rev. Fathers who were stalwarts like A.Bonhoure S.J, Arulsamy S.J, Edmund Faber S.J, S.M.Antonysamy S.J, M.George Thottungal S.J, Louis Xavier S.J, including the towering educationist Fr.TN. Siqueira S.J, occupied this chair. Mr.P.L.Stephen was the first layman lecturer who served for 28 years

      Prof.Selvanayagam was the first layman to be promoted as head of the department. He was soft spoken and simple. During his time, the department expanded considerably. B.A.Branch XII was started in his period. When professor Selvanayagam retired Prof. P.R. Srinivasan was promoted as head of the department.

      Prof. A.M.George who died in 1981 suddenly left behind the memory of an ideal and affable teacher. Prof A.Cleophas became the head of the department when Prof.P.R.Srinivasan retired. Two years later Prof.S.A.Thiaga Rajan was made HOD. In February 1998 a reunion of the former staff and students of the Dept. was organized and it was a grand success. The Second Reunion was held on 13th Feb. 2004. Many former staff and students participated and shared their memories.
