HISTORY OF COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

      The department of Computer Science was established in 1986 and it has been one of the pioneering departments in Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and Madurai kamaraj University.

Rev Fr G.A. Savariraj S.J, the first Director of Xavier Institute of Computer Science was the driving force behind all the successful developments in the departments in the initial stage. A mere institute today has grown into a full fledged department offering graduate and postgraduate courses. Today it is poised for developing into a research centre

Dr. S. Ambrose was shifted from Physics department to Computer department as Head in 1986. In April 2000 Dr. S. Ambrose retired from the service. Dr C. Xavier has written more than 10 Computer books. All the Staff members are actively involved in research work . Mr. J.L. Walter Jeyakumar was appointed as Head of the Computer Science department in 2004. Mr. J.L. Walter Jeyakumar has been nominated as member of Board of studies in Computer Science of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in 2005.

B.Sc Computer Science course was introduced in 1986.In the year 1991 PGDCA course was started. In 1994 M.Sc Computer Science course was started. .In 1998 B.Sc Computer evening course was started. In 2002 M.Sc Information technology was started. The department is also offering various one year Certificate courses.The Computer Science Association is conducting inter college competitions and Quiz programs every year.

Our past students are working in various organizations as software professionals in India and abroad.
