DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE
Origin of Commerce Education in St. Xavier’s may be traced back even prior to the inception of Commerce Department in 1968, as an ancillary subject for Economics. Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) is the most popular course in St. Xaviers, ever since its inception. Despite a parallel session in the self-financing scheme and also umpteen number of colleges offering this course, demand for B.Com in Xaviers remains unabated
Twenty years of enriching experience geared the department to offer M.Com. in 1988. The Department can proudly say that the P.G Programme of the Xaviers’ is unique as its beginning marked the advent of autonomy and in our college Our M.Com was never under any affiliated system, so also other P.G diploma programmes.
Growth of this Department can be attributed to the dedicated services of Dr. M. Kanagasabapathy who was heading the Department for over thirty years from its inspection and Prof. A. Esau Joseph who also retried from service after three decades of service as a senior professor and Head. Many Jesuits have contributed their mite to the Department. Rev.Dr. Antony Pappuraj S.J., currently the Rector of the Xavier’s Community , and Rev.Dr.John Bosco Vice Principal are in the Department as regular faculty
