St.Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai celebrated its Platinum Jubliee in the year 1998 and its Alumni Association is as old although in the early years it functioned with the name Old Boys’ Association. It may be admitted that in the early years there was not much activity excepting for a get together in the evening just prior to the starting of the college day function. Probably around the year 1994, things changed dramatically for the better with almost all the Jesuit Institutions appointing a Director each from the Jesuit Community to catalyse the activities of its Alumni; these Alumni Associations were networked at the regional, zonal, national and world levels by the formations of Federation of Jesuit Alumni of India and the World Congress of Jesuit Alumni. This ingenuity, unique to Jesuit Institutions, has given unparalleled scope of useful active life to the Alumni Association as compared to anyother such association in colleges/ universities.

To-day, the Alumni Association of St.Xavier’s College, Palayamkottai has about 250 life members on its roles and has a Constitution of its own. It has also Chapters at important towns like Tuticorin, Nagercoil and Kovilpatti. It holds regularly Annual General Body meetings around April to have its accounts passed by the house. Invariably a Newsletter is also released during the AGB meeting. During each year many useful programmes are held, noteworthy among them being the Coaching Classes for prospective candidates appearing for IAS/IPS and NET/SLET competitive examinations for a very low fee as compared to other institutions. A gratifying trend observed is the increasing popularity of these courses among students studying in other colleges in the neighbourhood. Of special mention is the 2-day Computer Expo organized at SXC in the year 2001 which attracted many, especially the student community, from all schools and colleges; elocution and quiz contests were conducted by the Alumni Association for encouraging the talented boys and girls.
